SL AMBASSADOR TRACK
PURPOSE
Giving the INN community students opportunities for kingdom service and building community with a higher reverence, capacity, and commitment to leadership. These students will be called higher, be poured into and developed in their leadership abilities, will have opportunities to grow spiritually, and will lead our community by example by representing Jesus, our INN community, and our ambassador leadership program.
WHO
Any student sophomore age and above!
JOIN DATE
Students can sign up during spring quarter for the upcoming school year! If a student wants to join during fall quarter, they will have a conversation with Kelsey Nerland (Leadership Development Coordinator).
REQUIREMENTS
- Fall Retreat + Winter Retreat: connection with ambassadors + leadership development
- Pre-INN Prayer: cover our community and Tuesday night gatherings with the power of prayer and fellowship; leading by setting the tone for the night
- Ambassador Teams: Attend a weekly meeting for your chosen ambassador team alongside other ambassadors with your same interests/passions that will plan events to connect for the community
- All Ambassador Event: 1-2x a quarter (community building, fun events, celebrations, and/or unique opportunities where you will be poured into– all planned by our student intern team!)
- Discipleship Goals Form: We want to make sure you are holistically growing and goal-setting! Ambassadors will fill out a Discipleship Goals Form based on their own personally-chosen spiritual, emotional, physical, mental, and social goals that will be revisited throughout the year on ambassador teams through accountability and encouragement. Students will sign up for the 3 trainings (minimum) at the beginning of the school year and plan accordingly. See the FAQ for more info!

Jesus says in John 10:10 “I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.”
It is with hope and joy that as we are in relationship with Jesus, and as we come to an awareness of this truth - He doesn’t just call us to life, but to an abundant life. Our hope here at the INN is that each of us would intentionally pursue this abundant life with Jesus, seeking to personally experience His love, and share it with others as we ourselves continue to receive it-- that we would be serving out of overflow. As student leaders, you are an important part of our team here at the INN and we are asking you to join us in this pursuit.
The following are some ways that we look to live into the abundant life that Jesus calls us to:
- Jesus says to ‘let our yes be yes, and our no be no’ (Matthew 5:37). It is important that when we commit to something that we follow through; and if we cannot follow through, to be clear in expressing that. We believe communicating helps people feel honored, and we want to be a community that leans on over-communicating rather than not saying anything at all-- in hopes that you will be met with grace and understanding.
- Jesus calls us to have a Sabbath, which is a set apart time for rest and connection with ourselves and God. The intention of Sabbath is to create space to fully receive the gifts of God in the presence of God, where we find the deepest rest and satisfaction for our souls. God knows we operate best when we are physically, emotionally, mentally, socially, and spiritually rested and living in connection with Him. We also want that for you! We encourage you to be holistically healthy and be mindful of your needs. Please take time to rest, recharge, and connect!
- Jesus teaches us to honor each other. We try our best as a community to create a cultural of honor that is uplifting and respectful of one another. Practically, this means interacting in ways that build each other up instead of tearing each other down, while also engaging in healthy conversations instead of gossip. We ask that you do the same, and help us cultivate safety and belonging in our community. We understand that the words we speak carry weight, as we represent not only Jesus, but also the INN community and the Ambassador program. Let’s assume the best in one another, seek to understand before seeking to be understood, and step into courageous conversations with one another.
- Jesus teaches us to live by truth, so we seek to speak truth and not lies.
- As followers of Jesus we seek to live a sexually honoring life. In today’s culture this is one of the hardest things to do as we see the gap between kingdom values and worldly living continue to grow. We value a healthy biblical sexual ethic that reinforces sexual expression within the context of marriage. We also know that this topic has largely forced sexual conversation, feelings, and actions into the darkness because of the shame around it that has often been promoted by the church. Our value is bringing this area of our life into the light, and being open in conversation around a universal struggle we share, which is the desire for close intimate relationships, during a time in life where very few of us are married. If healthy sexuality is a struggle for you, you are not alone and there is no shame. We also ask that you would use words of truth and grace instead of shame as you are in conversation with students who struggle in this way. As leaders in the community, we ask that you do your best to live a sexually honoring life.
- Jesus calls us to live life to the full. This means fully experiencing life, and not numbing it. We seek to use alcohol responsibly and uphold the law in our usage and ask that you would as well. Substance abuse of all types is real, and it is our hope that we will be responsible and not seek to numb life with substances.
As we said, we are a culture that is honoring and not a culture of shame. If you ever have questions or concerns or feel you are falling short of any of this, we ask that you would not distance yourself, but lean into Jesus and into the support of the community. Our staff would love to step into a conversation with you to support you! Jesus is for you, and so are we! The way we live together in unity will show the world who Jesus is just as much, if not more than, our words can convey this.
The Bible encourages us in 1 Timothy 4:12 to, “not let anyone look down on us because we are young, but set an example for believers in speech, in life, in faith, in love and in purity.”
These are all things that we are pursuing as a staff, and are asking you to join us in those same pursuits as leaders in our community. If you have issues or disagree with any of this, please talk with any of us on UMin Staff.
Do you agree to intentionally follow the Student Leadership Value Covenant? CIRCLE: YES or NO
