SL AMBASSADOR TRACK

PURPOSE

Giving the INN community students opportunities for kingdom service and building community with a higher reverence, capacity, and commitment to leadership. SL VALUES COVENANT 2020-2021

Student Leadership Value Covenant

2020-2021

Jesus says in John 10:10 “I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.”

It is with hope and joy that as we are in relationship with Jesus, and as we come to an awareness of this truth - He doesn’t just call us to life, but to an abundant life. Our hope here at the INN is that each of us would intentionally pursue this abundant life with Jesus, seeking to personally experience His love, and share it with others as we ourselves continue to receive it-- that we would be serving out of overflow. As student leaders, you are an important part of our team here at the INN and we are asking you to join us in this pursuit.

The following are some ways that we look to live into the abundant life that Jesus calls us to:

  • Jesus says to ‘let our yes be yes, and our no be no’ (Matthew 5:37). It is important that when we commit to something that we follow through; and if we cannot follow through, to be clear in expressing that. We believe communicating helps people feel honored, and we want to be a community that leans on over-communicating rather than not saying anything at all-- in hopes that you will be met with grace and understanding.
  • Jesus calls us to have a Sabbath, which is a set apart time for rest and connection with ourselves and God. The intention of Sabbath is to create space to fully receive the gifts of God in the presence of God, where we find the deepest rest and satisfaction for our souls. God knows we operate best when we are physically, emotionally, mentally, socially, and spiritually rested and living in connection with Him. We also want that for you! We encourage you to be holistically healthy and be mindful of your needs. Please take time to rest, recharge, and connect!
  • Jesus teaches us to honor each other. We try our best as a community to create a cultural of honor that is uplifting and respectful of one another. Practically, this means interacting in ways that build each other up instead of tearing each other down, while also engaging in healthy conversations instead of gossip. We ask that you do the same, and help us cultivate safety and belonging in our community. We understand that the words we speak carry weight, as we represent not only Jesus, but also the INN community and the Ambassador program. Let’s assume the best in one another, seek to understand before seeking to be understood, and step into courageous conversations with one another.
  • Jesus teaches us to live by truth, so we seek to speak truth and not lies.
  • As followers of Jesus we seek to live a sexually honoring life. In today’s culture this is one of the hardest things to do as we see the gap between kingdom values and worldly living continue to grow. We value a healthy biblical sexual ethic that reinforces sexual expression within the context of marriage. We also know that this topic has largely forced sexual conversation, feelings, and actions into the darkness because of the shame around it that has often been promoted by the church. Our value is bringing this area of our life into the light, and being open in conversation around a universal struggle we share, which is the desire for close intimate relationships, during a time in life where very few of us are married. If healthy sexuality is a struggle for you, you are not alone and there is no shame. We also ask that you would use words of truth and grace instead of shame as you are in conversation with students who struggle in this way. As leaders in the community, we ask that you do your best to live a sexually honoring life.
  • Jesus calls us to live life to the full. This means fully experiencing life, and not numbing it. We seek to use alcohol responsibly and uphold the law in our usage and ask that you would as well. Substance abuse of all types is real, and it is our hope that we will be responsible and not seek to numb life with substances.

As we said, we are a culture that is honoring and not a culture of shame. If you ever have questions or concerns or feel you are falling short of any of this, we ask that you would not distance yourself, but lean into Jesus and into the support of the community. Our staff would love to step into a conversation with you to support you!  Jesus is for you, and so are we! The way we live together in unity will show the world who Jesus is just as much, if not more than, our words can convey this.

The Bible encourages us in 1 Timothy 4:12 to, “not let anyone look down on us because we are young, but set an example for believers in speech, in life, in faith, in love and in purity.”

These are all things that we are pursuing as a staff, and are asking you to join us in those same pursuits as leaders in our community. If you have issues or disagree with any of this, please talk with any of us on UMin Staff.

Do you agree to intentionally follow the Student Leadership Value Covenant? CIRCLE:         YES        or       NO

AMBASSADOR MINISTRY TEAMS

Tuesday Night Team

This team will be in charge of creative input and facilitation of prayer, hospitality, INN Aesthetic, Post-Inn Community Ideas [bball, boba, games, etc.], and providing feedback for Tuesday nights ! ! !

Street Ministries

This team’s desire is to honor our neighbors in homeless and marginalized communities – having a heart for people in need and building relationships with the people we serve. Our hope is to cultivate a culture around service that sees others on a same-level basis, and learn the difference between feeding those who are hungry and actually sitting down to share a meal with them. We believe you don’t have to cross the seas to participate in God’s mission. There’s a lot we can engage with in our own backyard.

Worship Team

These teams lead worship through music on Tuesday nights at the INN, in the Palmer House for worship nights, or through our new Dance-Inn ministry. Those involved in these teams will have to be able to attend practice and help plan out and organize culturally and ethnically diverse worship sessions. The teams will grow as a community and grow in its skill and knowledge of how to lead a large group in praise and worship. This team does require an audition to be considered for it.

Media + Design Team

This team is in charge of Tuesday media (slides, videos, flyers, etc), social media, the website, and anything else that involves the INN's brand and/or marketing. We believe that by having a unified team with a diverse set of skills, we can both be more productive and produce better content that can impact more people, more effectively. We expect the team to work with staff and interns to manage and consult on the content that they contribute.

Dominican Republic Mission

This team gets to help create a cross-cultural experience through partnering with our brothers and sisters in the Dominican Republic through Children of the Nations. We will be engaging in conversations around short term missions, mutually beneficial partnerships, and how to lead the team we take. We will develop our leadership skills, plan the trip to the DR, and lead the students that participate.

Young Life College

This team is outreach based and focused on building relationships with non-believing students. This team is integrated with North Seattle Young Life and has a mix of student leaders and post-graduate leaders. They host Young Life club once a week and have team meetings each alternating week.

Greek Team

This team is outreach based and focused on building relationships with students in the Greek system. Our hope is to step foot into a fraternity/sorority every week and love students right where they are at through authenticity, realness and community.

Men's Ministry

This team will focus on reaching out to men that are not yet in this community, building stronger relationships with men in this community. Men's ministry may have weekly gatherings, quarterly retreats, and numerous opportunities to step into leadership roles. If you're passionate about dudes growing closer to Jesus, this team is for you!

Women's Ministry

This team will be building community among women and outreaching to women in and outside the area. Coming alongside one another to encourage each other in our aspirations, hopes, and dreams. Empowering women to use their voices and know who they are, made in the image of God. Engaging in the harder topics for women in our society and encouraging women that they are powerful, strong, and influential and will make a huge impact in this world.

Speaking Team

The team meets weekly with whoever will be speaking on the upcoming Tuesday night. They go over the sermon with them and help to be a representative voice for the students who come to the INN, by asking questions and giving opinions on the scripture, sermon series, and talks themselves.

Deputation Team

This team’s goal is to advertise and invite students to participate in our Deputation program. They organize placement meetings for interested students during Winter quarter.  Then they prayerfully and intentionally place students in teams and partner those teams with one of the mission sites. Following team placement, this team organizes training meetings with each of the teams.

Social Justice Team

This team’s goal is set on engaging the community through conversation and opportunities to learn and take action. This goal is primarily focused on helping create a safe space in our community where we can discuss topics that may be seen as controversial, areas of progress or how we see things changing in society.

UMIN Housing

This team consists of the five women living in the Palmer House and the twelve men living in the Lighthouse. Their responsibilities vary based-on their individual jobs. Overall, these individuals have the opportunity to take ownership of two of the main community-focused locations within University Ministries. These people are amazing, so give them some love.

Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I. Send me!”
