Answers to some questions you may have about our 3 Student Leadership Tracks ! ! !

SERVE TRACK // FAQ’s

  • WHAT ARE THE STEPS TO APPLY

1. Fill out SL Serve Track application

2. Conversation with the Student Intern Volunteer Coordinator or someone else on staff (the hope is we want to get to know you and see what you’re interested in and how you hope to serve the community)!

3. Join the FB Serve Track page and/or Serve Track GroupMe for updates!

 

  • WHAT HAPPENS WHEN AFTER I JOIN?

    • On the FB Serve Track page and/or Serve Track GroupMe, the Volunteer Coordinator will be posting opportunities and/or reaching out to you to see if you would like to sign up to serve for a particular event/volunteer opportunity. 
    • You can sign up for as many or as little volunteer opportunities as you have time for! It’s very flexible!
    • You CAN sign up for dates to serve ahead of time! For example… If you want to serve as a Palmer House barista on a bi-weekly basis every Wednesday, you can do that! 
    • You CAN commit to a recurring serve opportunity, or sign up twice a quarter! It’s up to you and how much time you want to invest!

 

  • WHAT AM I COMMITTING TO WHEN I SIGN UP FOR THE SERVE TRACK?

    • The hope is that you would choose 2-3 areas of volunteering within the serve track and actively sign up to volunteer throughout the year for 
    • No meetings! Just serve when you want to!
    • You can sign up for as many or as little volunteer opportunities as you have time for! It’s very flexible!
    • It’s a great way to build community (meeting new people you’re serving alongside), serve the INN community, and give back to the INN community with your time/talents, and — all without the recurring commitments!
    • The SL Trainings, Pre-INN Prayer, and Serve Team Socials are all optional. You can totally join if you would like, but it’s not required. The retreat is only for Ambassadors and Student Interns.

 

  • WHO WOULD SIGN UP FOR THE SERVE TRACK:

    • Anyone!
    • Examples:
      • If you’re a committed YoungLife/WyldLife leader but still want to invest in the INN community…
      • If you’re a freshmen looking for ways to meet people and get opportunities to serve the INN community
      • If you’re a senior with a job/internship and you feel overcommitted… you don’t have the time to do the student internship… but still want a way to pour back into the INN community and stay involved
      • LITERALLY any student that wants to be the hands and feet of Jesus within our INN community!

 

  • HOW IS THIS DIFFERENT FROM LAST YEAR?

    • We didn’t have this opportunity last year! This is a NEW structure! The hope is that this is a great opportunity for students that want to serve the INN community, but don’t have the time opportunity of committing to the ambassador track 
    • We want to launch you into where the Lord is calling you– but still keep you connected to The INN community

AMBASSADOR TRACK // FAQ’s

  • WHAT ARE THE STEPS TO APPLY

1. Fill out SL Ambassador Track application (if applying to be a team-lead, please say so in your application).

2. You will sign the leadership covenant, and agree to the commitment requirements with reverence.

2. Conversation with a staff member (the hope is we want to get to know you and see what you’re interested in so we can put you 1 of the 12 ambassador teams)!

3. Join the FB Ambassador Track page and/or Ambassador Track GroupMe for updates!

 

  • WHAT HAPPENS WHEN AFTER I JOIN?

    • You will get a CONGRATS email if you have been selected to be an ambassador, and will be given the dates for the fall retreat.
    • During the spring, you won’t see many updates; however, you will be notified by email/FB/Group Me about important announcements throughout the summer. 
    • During the Fall Retreat, you will find out which ambassador team you have been placed on!
    • You will be asked to pay the Ambassador Fee (it pays for the retreats)
    • During fall quarter, you will:
      • Find a recurring weekly time to meet with your Ambassador Team
      • Given all of the dates for the trainings and events 
      • Be given the Discipleship Goals form to fill out
      • Sign up for your 3 required trainings throughout the school year
      • Attend Ambassador requirements (retreats, pre-inn prayer, all ambassador events, and trainings)
      • Recommit to the leadership covenant
      • Stay updated through the FB Ambassador Track page and/or Ambassador Track GroupMe
  • WHAT AM I COMMITTING TO WHEN I SIGN UP FOR THE AMBASSADOR TRACK?

    • The Ambassador Track is a great way to build community, serve the INN community, create change, impact students, give back to the INN community with your time/talents, and grow in your leadership abilities. 
      • Fall Retreat + Winter Retreat: connection with ambassadors + leadership development 
      • Pre-INN Prayer: cover our community and Tuesday night gatherings with the power of prayer and fellowship; leading by setting the tone for the night
      • Ambassador Ministry Teams: Attend a weekly meeting for your chosen ambassador team alongside other ambassadors with your same interests/passions that will plan events to connect for the community
      • All Ambassador Event: 1-2x a quarter (community building, fun events, celebrations, and/or unique opportunities where you will be poured into– all planned by our student intern team!) 
      • Discipleship Goals Form: We want to make sure you are holistically growing and goal-setting! Ambassadors will fill out a Discipleship Goals Form based on their own personally-chosen spiritual, emotional, physical, mental, and social goals that will be revisited throughout the year on ambassador teams through accountability and encouragement. Ambassadors will also identify and name people that are discipling them and people they are discipling. 
      • SL Leadership Values Covenant: In past years, we have had students sign this form before signing up for student leadership. Going forward, there will be a deeper hope to be in alignment with the covenant, as the covenant will be revisited throughout the year in addition to accountability with the Ambassador team leaders.
      • 3 Trainings: Exciting new way of doing workshops! Instead of going to bi-weekly workshops, ambassadors will only be required to attend 3 trainings throughout the year. Students will sign up for the 3 trainings (minimum) at the beginning of the school year and plan accordingly. See the FAQ for more info!
      • Small Group: The hope is that this student is in a small group inside or outside of the INN community alongside peers.
      • Ambassador Fee: You will be asked to pay the Ambassador Fee (it pays for the retreats)

 

  • HOW IS THIS DIFFERENT FROM LAST YEAR?

The Ambassador program will benefit the student who wants to grow and be developed, and create impact in the INN community. These students will be held to a higher standard, and be given a lot of opportunities to grow in community and leadership development. 

        • Discipleship Goals Form: NEW! This is a way to grow in your personal goals and development; it will be referred to throughout the year
        • SL Lifestyle Leadership Covenant: NEW-ish! There will be a higher expectation to model what it means to be a leader in our community; it will be referred to throughout the year.
        • Trainings: NEW! Instead of the SL Bi-Weekly Workshops, we will only require you to sign up for 3 throughout the entire school year! You will sign up for which trainings you want to attend in the beginning of the school year and plan accordingly.
        • All Ambassador Events: same as last year– dances, socials, celebrations; however, they will be planned by our student interns!
        • Ambassador Teams: same as last year– just a different name; however, there is a higher expectation to show up.
        • Pre-INN Prayer: same as last year; however, you will commit to showing up! 
        • Retreats: same as last year; however, you will get more specific leadership training.
        • Small Group: same as last year; however, you can be in a small group inside or outside the INN (example: you live in Vision housing and you already have a small group you are committed to).
        • Ambassador Fee: same as last year; you will be asked to pay the Ambassador Fee (it pays for the retreats)
  • WHAT ARE THE TRAININGS?

    • Ambassadors will be required to sign up for 3 trainings (minimum) throughout the school year. 
    • Each training will be a 2-hour long intensive training

    • Ambassadors only have to sign up for 3 trainings!

  • WHO WOULD SIGN UP FOR THE AMBASSADOR TRACK:

  • Sophomore and above!
  • Examples:
    • You’re passionate about seeing change at the INN
    • If you’re looking to spiritually grow
    • You might not think you’re a “leader” — but you’re wondering what this leap of faith might look like
    • You are looking to grow in your leadership abilities
    • You are looking to build community with consistency 
    • You loved your time in the Dominican Republic or on Deputation, and want to be on the team that leads next year’s team
    • If you want to learn how to lead
    • You’re looking for more structure in your life
    • You’re passionate about one of the Ambassador Teams, and you want to be a team leader
    • You’re looking to grow in a new way and want to join an Ambassador team that will take you outside of your comfort zone
    • Any student that wants to be the hands and feet of Jesus within our INN community! 

 

  • WHAT WOULD I DO AS AN AMBASSADOR TEAM LEADER?

    • You or you + a staff member will oversee a specific ambassador team! You will plan and facilitate weekly meetings for your team and commit to investing in your team members. You will report to Kelsey, who will be there to support you if you need help/advice/encouragement on how to lead your team.
    • You will lead your team 1-2x quarterly through a review of the Discipleship Form and Leadership Lifestyle Covenant that students have signed and personally filled out. You will help hold your team accountable and commit to encouraging them!

    • Kelsey Nerland (Leadership Development Coordinator) is overseeing the Ambassador track team leaders, and the team leaders are overseeing their individual teams.

STUDENT INTERN TRACK // FAQ’s

 

  • WHAT ARE THE STEPS TO APPLY

      • 1. Fill out Student Internship Track application
      • 2. You will sign the leadership covenant, and agree to the commitment requirements with reverence.
      • 3. Interview with Kelsey or someone else on staff
      • 4. You will either be selected or not selected for the student internship team 2020-2021 (if not selected, we encourage you to step into a conversation with Kelsey about being an Ambassador or a Team Leader for an Ambassador team!)

  • WHAT HAPPENS WHEN AFTER I AM SELECTED?

      • You will get a CONGRATS email if you have been selected to be a student intern, the student internship area you will oversee, the dates for the student intern retreat, as well as the links to the Student Intern FB/Group Me and the Ambassador Team page.

  • WHAT AM I COMMITTING TO WHEN I SIGN UP FOR THE STUDENT INTERN TRACK?

    The Student Intern Track is a great way to grow in your faith, leadership skills. You will be developed and challenged spiritually.

    Giving Senior-aged INN students an opportunity to grow, be developed, be in intentional fellowship, and take risks for kingdom service. Student interns will have a higher reverence, capacity, and commitment to leadership. These students will be called higher, be poured into and developed in their leadership abilities, will have opportunities to grow spiritually, and will lead our community by example by representing Jesus, our INN community, and our ambassador leadership program. This track is a great way to build community, serve the INN community, create change, impact students, give back to the INN community with your time/talents, and grow in your leadership abilities. 

    • Weekly focus: Gather / God / Grow / Go. See FAQ for more Info!
          • Student Intern Weekly Meeting: The student intern team of 8-10 student interns will act like a small group, and will connect, grow, and serve together. This is an opportunity to grow in fellowship and take risks! 
          • Student Internship Role: Student Interns will agree to oversee a specific area of leadership. You can apply to be a team leader for an Ambassador Team, a Palmer House/Lighthouse Manager, be the President of your Greek house, be the Worship Team co-lead, be the Serve Team Volunteer Coordinator, be The Stable Student Intern, a Team Lead for a YoungLife team, be the Freshmen Student Intern, or oversee another area of students, etc. There are a lot of opportunities! If you are passionate about an area outside of The INN ministry, talk to Kelsey about making your Student Intern experience
          • Student Intern Retreat: connection with fellow student intern team for #bonding
          • Fall Retreat + Winter Retreat: connection with ambassadors + leadership development 
          • Plan the Freshmen Retreat: We want to continue this tradition! Student interns will plan and execute the freshmen retreat! Woohoo!
          • Pre-INN Prayer: cover our community and Tuesday night gatherings with the power of prayer and fellowship; leading by setting the tone for the night; student interns will have the opportunity to lead 1-2 Pre Inn Prayers throughout the year!
          • Ambassador Teams: You are not required to be on an Ambassador team; however, you can be a team leader for an Ambassador team as a part of your student internship. See Ambassador Team section for more information. 
          • All Ambassador Event: The whole Student Intern team will plan All Ambassador Events 1-2x a quarter (community building, fun events, celebrations, and/or unique opportunities where you will be poured into– all planned by our student intern team!) You get to decide what the community needs as a team! Party on! 
          • Discipleship Goals Form: We want to make sure you are holistically growing and goal-setting! Student Interns will fill out a Discipleship Goals Form based on their own personally-chosen spiritual, emotional, physical, mental, and social goals that will be revisited throughout the year on the Student Internship team through accountability and encouragement. Student Interns will also identify and name people that are discipling them and people they are discipling. Kelsey will facilitate this for the team.
          • SL Leadership Values Covenant: In past years, we have had students sign this form before signing up for student leadership. Going forward, there will be a deeper hope to be in alignment with the covenant, as the covenant will be revisited throughout the year in addition to personal accountability with Kelsey.
          • 3 Trainings: Exciting new way of doing workshops! Instead of going to bi-weekly workshops, Student Interns will only be required to attend 3 trainings throughout the year (alongside Ambassadors). Student Interns may lead or help lead a training, if they wish to do so. Student Interns will sign up for the 3 trainings (minimum) at the beginning of the school year and plan accordingly.     WHAT WILL WEEKLY STUDENT INTERN MEETINGS LOOK LIKE?

    Each of the 4 weeks of each month will have a different emphasis:

    • Week 1: GATHER
      • We will take time to “be family” — check in with one another, share a meal together, do life together, talk about what’s going on in the INN community and how we can care for the community well
    • Week 2: GOD
      • We will get in the Word, learn something about God, watch a sermon, or focus on a teaching (example: maturity of believers: unpacking brokenness, abandonment, dependency, intimacy with Jesus)
    • Week 3: GROW
      • Kelsey (or another staff member) will be teaching on an topic of spiritual/leadership development (i.e. communication, active listening skills, conflict management, life-planning, post-grad, etc.)
    • Week 4: GO
      • We will GO! 
      • The hope is that we get creative with outreach opportunities that get us outside of our comfort zones that allow us to rely on Holy Spirit!
        • Examples: 
          • Prayer Walks
          • Prison Ministry
          • Dog Evangelism (lol)
          • ATL (Ask The Lord)
          • Treasure Hunting

       HOW IS THIS DIFFERENT FROM LAST YEAR?

      The Student Intern program will be led by Kelsey Nerland for the year 2020-2021. The Student Intern team will be a smaller team. It will benefit the senior-aged student who wants to grow spiritually, be poured into and developed, be challenged and encouraged by fellowship, and create impact in the INN community. These students will be held to a higher standard, and be given a lot of opportunities to grow in community and leadership development. 

            • Student Intern Weekly Meeting: (Smaller team) The student intern team of 8-10 student interns will act like a small group, and will connect, grow, and serve together. This is an opportunity to grow in fellowship and take risks! 
            • Weekly focus: Gather / God / Grow / Go. See FAQ for more Info!
              • Student Internship Role: (Specific Focus) Student Interns will agree to oversee a specific area of leadership. You can apply to be a team leader for an Ambassador Team, a Palmer House/Lighthouse Manager, be the President of your Greek house, be the Worship Team co-lead, be the Serve Team Volunteer Coordinator, be The Stable Student Intern, a Team Lead for a YoungLife team, be the Freshmen Student Intern, or oversee another area of students, etc. There are a lot of opportunities!       WHAT WOULD I DO AS AN AMBASSADOR TEAM LEADER FOR MY STUDENT INTERNSHIP?

      • You or you + a staff member will oversee a specific ambassador team! You will plan and facilitate weekly meetings for your team and commit to investing in your team members.         WHAT IS THE SERVE TEAM VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR POSITION?

        Apply if…

        • You are passionate about organization
        • You would call yourself a planner
        • You are strategic 
        • You are a creative-problem solver
        • You love encouraging and supporting people
        • If you are applying to be a student intern, and you would like to oversee the Serve Track volunteer leaders
        • Overseeing the 4 Serve Track Team Opportunities: Palmer, Organization, Hospitality, Speaking.
        • Managing, coordinating, and facilitating Serve Team Volunteers (making sure our recurring spots are filled (i.e. palmer house baristas, INN Set up)
        • Meeting up with Serve team volunteers 1:1 to hear about their passions and how they want to serve the community
        • Having conversations with Serve team applicants when they apply & placing them on a Serve team
        • Celebrating, supporting, praying with, and thanking our Serve team volunteers
        • Providing encouragement to our Serve team volunteers
        • Creating a end-of-the year celebration for our Serve team volunteers
